Advocacy Services

If you're a survivor of sexual violence, know that what happened to you was not your fault. You may be feeling overwhelmed, confused or powerless. Just remember that we're here to help you decide your next steps.

UCR’s CARE advocates are available if you’d like confidential help in sorting through your emotions, resources and options. As UCR’s certified sexual assault/domestic violence survivor advocates, CARE advocates operate within an empowerment model of support, aiming to provide those impacted by violence with on- and off-campus resources, and supporting whichever path the survivor feels will be most helpful on their healing journey. We welcome students, faculty, staff — as well as support individuals — to meet with us in a safe and highly confidential space.

Safety Planning

CARE advocates can help you brainstorm ways to stay safe and make a plan to reduce the risk of future harm.

  • Domestic/dating violence 
  • Sexual assault
  • Stalking
  • Sexual Harassment 

Accompaniment

If you'd like, a CARE advocate can accompany you to any appointments and interviews throughout the process, such as:

  • Forensic medical exam (within 120 hours of sexual assault)
  • Filing a report with Title IX and/or law enforcement
  •  Investigative interviews with Title IX, law enforcement and/or the district attorney's office
  • Court hearings
  • Student conduct meetings

If you're in a crisis, CARE advocates can help you obtain emergency assistance, sort through emotions, understand your rights and options, and reach next-step decisions (whatever those may be).

Healing Support & Case Management

CARE advocates are here for you every step of the way and can help you with ongoing advocacy and holistic healing support.

  • Explore holistic healing resources and support including individual/group therapy, trauma informed yoga, art/writing, R'Garden and more.
  • Coordinate on- and off-campus services and options
  • Assist with service applications and deadlines

Accommodations

If you need help with housing or are having academic problems as a result of your assault, CARE advocates can work with other UCR departments to help you obtain accommodations.
